BAND LANDS IN ROLLING STONE'S "BEST OF 2008" ISSUE

TOUR DATES CONFIRMED WITH DAVE MATTHEWS BAND

“It’s OCMS’s scrappy, fervent playing that reinvents old-time for a whole new generation. Live, the band is a mesmerizing mess of strings and sweat.” – The Onion

December 19, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) – OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW (OCMS) are ending 2008 with a performance of “Alabama High-Test” on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on Tuesday, December 23. The track, from their latest album Tennessee Pusher, has proven to be one of their most popular live songs and landed the band in Rolling Stone’s “Best of 2008” issue on the “Singles of the Year” list. The magazine called the song “a fast-rhyming banjo blues from old-timey cowpunks…”

OCMS is also excited to announce that they will open three shows for Dave Matthews Band on April 17 and 18 in Charlottesville, VA at the John Paul Jones Arena, and April 20 in Pelham, AL at the Verizon Wireless Music Center. Prior to that, the fivesome will be touring the south with The Felice Brothers as support and heading to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in their career; tour dates will be announced shortly.

Tennessee Pusher, the third Nettwerk release from OCMS, debuted in September at #50 on the Billboard 200, #7 on the Top Country Albums chart, #16 on the Top Digital Albums chart and #1 on the Top Bluegrass Album chart (where it stayed consistently for 12 weeks). The band recently wrapped a major UK and North American tour where they played close to 50 shows, the majority of which sold out. Additionally, they appeared on A Prairie Home Companion and stopped by World Café for a special session.

My 3-Nighter of LIVE MUSIC: The Black Crowes, SociaLibrium, High on Fire

INSANITY!!!! Three nights in a row getting down to three mind-boggling bands....WOW!!!

The Black Crowes, The Fillmore, SF, CA - 12/16

It all started off with the rock n' roll goods of The Black Crowes who are performing five nights at The Fillmore here in San Francisco. I went on the second night of their run.....YEEEAH BABY!!!

I have not seen them in a long time (I used to catch them at the Beacon Theatre in NYC back in the 90s a lot) so I was really excited to see them. Especially since guitarist Luther Dickinson (from North Mississippi Allstars) jumped on board. He adds that dirty southern blues-rock slide-guitar that is so infectious to the over all hard rockin', bluesy, soulful, groove, jam sound of The Crowes. These cats ROCK and ROCK HARD! (Pictured below: Rich & Chris Robinson)
Brothers Rich (guitar & vocals) & Chris Robinson (vocals, guitar & harmonica) and the gang were on fire from the first song to the last and the crowd was loving it and so was the band. Lot's of smiles on stage and in the crowd as The Crowes pummeled us and hugged us with each and every tune. Lots of old tunes mixed in with new tunes from their most recent and excellent album "War Paint" and they performed the classic cover, "Let's Go Get Stoned," to end it all.

It was a killer show at an awesome venue. The Black Crowes can still rock the hell out of any place. This is true rock n' roll people. Catch'em LIVE when you get a chance and get ready to get down!

SociaLibrium, The Great American Music Hall, SF, CA - 12/17/08

Man oh man....still feeling the insane vibes of a wonderful night of rock 'n roll I got my ass in gear for a monstrous night of FUNK! As soon as I saw this show listed I new I was there in a heartbeat. (Pictured below: Blackbyrd McKnight)

SociaLibrium is a brand new band and the mind-boggling, legendary line-up consisted of Bernie Worrell on keyboards & vocals, Blackbyrd McKnight on guitar & vocals, TM Stevens on bass & vocals and Brain on drums......HOOOLY SHIT!!! I mean come on now....we are talking about four super BAD-ASS MOTHERFUCKERS here everyone! These cats are beyond talented and sooo funky! (Pictured below: Bernie Worrell)

I've seen each band member in other bands (Woo-Warriors, Parliament/Funkadelic/P-Funk, Frog Brigade, Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, etc.) and it was an honor to catch these cats at the Great American Music Hall on this special night. (Pictured below: TM Stevens)

The entire night was a mad cosmic feast of dirty, dirty, DIRTY ass funk and crazed acid-rock madness. Psychotic bass slapping and an over all happy demonic persona from TM mixed with Brain's hard cyclonic drum banging was enough to drive any dancer completely nuts. But then you add Bernie's cosmic keys and the over the top guitar shredding beauty of the one and only BLACKBYRD MCKNIGHT and....LOOK OUT!!! Madness I tell ya...complete madness.

Monster jams and funk delights all night long. And I still had another show to go too!

High on Fire, The Great American Music Hall, SF, CA - 12/18/08

Two maniacal shows under my panties and one to go. What a way to end this 3 nighter....a sweaty balls to the wall evening with Matt Pike's HIGH ON FIRE! This is definitely one of the baddest and heeeeavyest bands around. I caught them a couple of times a few years back at The Casbah in San Diego, CA but this was my first show in awhile so I was really pumped to see them. (Pictured below: the all mighty....HIGH ON FIRE!)

Drunk Horse opened up the evening with their 70s style hard rock grooves and then HIGH ON FIRE took the stage and melted, thundered, and literally trampled the entire place. Damn, I was completely and utterly floored by this show. This was no holds bar metal at its most worshipping finest. This viscous power trio of: Matt Pike (legendary Sleep guitarist) on guitar & vocals, Des Kensel on drums and Jeff Matz on bass totaled annihilated the place. HEEEEEAVY bass madness, a blitzkrieg of bombastic drum pounding, and guitar shredding tore threw my very body. At times it felt like the Great American would come crashing down on top of us. It was a thunderous musical assualt......like a heard of buffalo on fire stampeding over everything in their way to get to hell!!!

This show was on another level compared to the amazing past Casbah shows I've seen. It was DOOM in all its glory....dirty, rockin' and sludging its way over the masses. If you have never seen them and you dig this kind of groove then you have no idea what you are missing. Pick up their albums for a ferocious beating and definitely see them LIVE! This is a juggernaut of musical madness. Anything in this bands way will get crushed. I'm out right blown away. Phenomenal....I'm speechless. Three nights of insanity. I'm outta here. Over & out, Veena Ladoo
